Blakeney Hotel Blakeney

We strayed beyond Yorkshire this month for a trip to Norfolk and a few days at the Blakeney Hotel. It’s a big hotel by our standards, 60 rooms and extremely  comfortable.

Our room had plenty of space to spread out with luxurious bedding, a stack of pillows, a glamorous marble tiled bathroom and REN toiletries.

Dinner each night exceeded our expectations for hotel food. Three courses from a menu of solid British dishes but with a modern twist, so lamb came with Moroccan spices and pomegranate. Locally caught crab, lobster and mussels were always on the menu. Breakfasts too were great.

The public rooms were comfortable with sofas, log fires and the daily papers. The Lookout, an upstairs sitting room with huge picture windows overlooking the estuary and the saltmarshes gave us a panoramic view of the flocks of Brent geese that arrive in autumn in their thousands from Siberia to this corner of the north Norfolk coast.

Very welcome was the 20 metre pool, the steam room, sauna and jacuzzi, just the job after a windy coastal walk and a thrilling boat trip to see the thousands of grey Atlantic seals that congregate on the Blakeney sandbanks to have their pups.
